REVIEW / Was für ein Schmarrn aus Taiwan! Dieser 79 minütige, schmerzend alberne, kostengünstig bunte, mit vielen jungen Mädels und Yueh Hua besetzte Kinderfilm frei von Pädagogik hat mich nach mindestens 1000 zuvor konsumierten Eastern beinahe sprachlos werden lassen. Jetzt ist ein Tag vergangen und ich versuche mal diesen natürlich nur in schlechter Bildqualität und in französischer Sprache vorhandenen Film ein wenig zu beschreiben, denn eine Erwähnung auf queenboxers.net hat er – allein schon wegen Elsa Yeung Wai San – auf jeden Fall verdient.
Ein Dorf im Ancient China, zwei Clans mit je zwei Mädels als Exekutive treten in den Wettstreit darüber, wer dem Dorf am Besten helfen kann. Neben einigen mäßigen Kung Fu Performances kristallisiert sich als Hauptdisziplin der Competition die Akutpsychiatrie heraus – soll heißen, dass ein Typ sich andauernd umbringen will und unsere Ladies sich darin überbieten, ihn ein jedes Mal aufwändigst zu retten. Dabei konkurrieren sie weiterhin, auch zum Leidwesen des Suizidalen. Vielleicht reicht das schon, um ein Gefühl für den schrägen, mitunter völlig beknackten und dabei immer infantilen Humor dieses Mini-Meisterwerks zu bekommen. Wenn der Selbstmordwillige dann hilfesuchend beim trotteligen Clanältesten aufläuft und sinngemäß als Antwort (merci, ma Cherie) bekommt: „Junger Mann, Ihnen kann keiner mehr helfen, Sie können sich am besten selbst umbringen!“ ist klar, dass dieser Film grenzüberschreitend debil ist.
Das ist aber nicht alles. In diese hirnvergessene Suppe gehört Salz - in Form von einigen appetitlichen Kuriositäten: Ein Bösewicht – Le Masque Infernal, mal richtig böse als Entführer von jungen Frauen, mal eine Witzfigur, am Ende gar ein fliegender Teufel. Ein Bordell, in dem munter die Betten gewechselt werden und La Patrone den Zwangsprostituierten Blumennamen gibt - voulez vous, Begonie? Manchmal war ich doch froh, dass das Bild sehr dunkel war, sonst wäre ich mitunter an Reizüberflutung niederster Art krepiert. Dann kommt auf einmal ein wunderbar lächerliches Krötenmonster zum Vorschein, dazu gibt es die passende Figur eines jungen, sehr bösen Antihelden, der so eine Art Kaugummigranaten speien kann und ebenso den Nebel des Grauens aus seiner Trickkiste hat holen kann. Auch das in vielen Eastern übliche Dissen von Japanern darf hier nicht fehlen, zusätzlich bekommt hier ein Orientale – sollte es ein Inder sein? - auch noch sein Fett weg. Hatte ich schon den fliegenden Teppich erwähnt? Oder Yueh Hua in einer Art Försterkostüm? Oder den diabolischen Flattermann?
Bevor ich mich wiederhole, höre ich auf diesen widerlich leckeren, geschmacklos genialen Streifen abzufeiern und fasse zusammen: Tolle Bilder, totaler Quatsch, kaum Langeweile, viele Ladies ( neben Elsa noch Suen Ga Lam, Gam Boh, eventuell Yuen Qiu und mindestens 6 weitere, nicht gelistete Girls), mäßiges Kung Fu (immerhin) und ein toller Soundtrack, der danach klingt, als ob Chou Fu Liang auf Speed jede seiner Platten einmal kurz angespielt hat. Wow! Leider hatte ich das Gefühl, dass irgendein Franzose dem Mix-Master da reingepfuscht hat und ab und zu eigene Sounds, Fanfaren und Geräusche wie aus Louis de Funes Filmen da mit verbraten hat, aber nicht so schlimm, denn zum Schluss soll nun noch Elsa gehuldigt werden , die damals noch am Anfang ihrer Karriere stand und mir auch mit diesem Film, inszeniert von Chan Jun Leung, beweist, dass einfach jeder ihrer Filme, in denen sie eine große Rolle spielt, irgendwie – sagen wir mal – abnormal ist. Ich nenne nur CHALLENGE OF THE LADY NINJA oder GOLDEN QUEENS COMMANDO, heiße Elsa auf Queenboxers.net willkommen und verbeuge mich vor dieser grandiosen, glamourösen Queen of Wierd and Wonderful!

REVIEW / What nonsense from Taiwan! After having watched at least 1000 kung fu movies, this 79-minute, painfully silly, brightly colored low-cost kiddies’ flic void of pedagogy, co-starring Yueh Hua and lots of young girls almost had me dumbfounded. A day has passed since I saw the movie, and slowly coming to my senses, I will try to describe what it’s about. Only available in rotten picture quality with French dub, KUNG FU GIRLS by all means deserves to be mentioned on queenboxers.net, Elsa Yeung Wai San alone being more than reason enough.
A village in ancient China; two clans, each with a powerful executive force consisting of two girls, battle for highest village authority by trying to prove more helpful than the other party. Besides some mediocre kung fu performances, the main discipline turns out to be emergency psychiatry – meaning one chap is constantly trying to kill himself and our ladies outdo each other by elaborately saving his life each time. They go on competing while doing so, much to the sorrow of the suicidal one. This plot detail may be enough to get a feeling for the wierd, occasionaly completely daft and always infantile humor embossing this miniature masterpiece. When the suicidal one begs the goofy clan eldest for help and the latter solemnly gives the following advise (Merci, ma Cherie): „Young man, no one can help you any more, you really should kill yourself!“, we know that this film is border-crossing moronic.
But there’s even more. This brain-lost soup is salted with some delicious curiosities: Le Masque Infernal, at times a really mean, girlnapping culprit, at times a laughing stock, at the end even a flying devil. A brothel, where people spend their time confusing beds, inhabited by forced prostitutes with flower names chosen by La Patrone - voulez vous, Begonie? Sometimes I was happy about the very obscure quality, otherwise I would have perished from lowest sensory overload. All of a sudden, a wonderfully ridiculous toad monster appears with the matching young and very evil antihero who can spew some sort of bubblegum granades and also conjures the Dreaded Fog from his bag of trix. The kung fu flic commonplace dissing of Japanese folks wasn’t left out, plus the novelty of an Oriental character - was he supposed to be Indian? - is introduced to be bashed. Did I already mention the flying carpet? Or Yueh Hua in a sort of forest ranger outfit? Or the diabolic Flutterman?
Before I start repeating myself, I will quit praising this obnoxiously luscious, tastelessly ingenious flic and summerize: great pictures, total nonsense, hardly boring, lots of ladies (besides Elsa still Suen Ga Lam, Gam Boh, maybe Yuen Qiu and at least 6 more unlisted girls), mediocre kung fu (at least that) and a super soundtrack, sounding like Chou Fu Liang on speed, shortly testing all of his records. Wow! Unfortunately, I got the feeling some French guy dilluted the work of the mix master with his own sounds, fanfares and noise in Lois de Funes fashion. Doesn’t matter that much, and anyway, now’s the time to pay hommage to Elsa, who was still at the beginning of her career then and once more proved that all of her starring role films are somewhat – let’s say – abnormal. Besides KUNG FU GIRLS by director Chan Jun Leung (CHILD OF PEACH), I can only recommend CHALLENGE OF THE LADY NINJA or GOLDEN QUEENS COMMANDO. Welcome to queenboxers.net, Elsa!
